Programs for Kids and Teens

Care for the Whole Family

At Alongside, we provide care for the whole family because we know kids and teens need a safe place to process their pain. Our programs for kids and teens provide intentional, age-appropriate care for our younger participants. In fact, we developed these programs based on the same material the adults cover in their seminars.

Kids and teens learn and explore the same content as their parents – themes like loss, grief, transition, being a ministry kid, stress, resilience, anxiety, conflict, emotions and adversity. Although the kids and teen programs could be considered therapeutic in nature, they are not counseling.

Counseling services are available for kids and teens by request and for an additional fee per counseling session. Please let us know if you are interested in this for your child or children when applying for a retreat.

We are staffed to care for children from infancy through adolescence. Kids and teen programs run from 8:30am to 3:30pm every weekday, with an hour break for lunch so families can eat together.

Youth Spaces

Early Childhood Program

Kids participating in the early childhood program will have lessons tailored to the unique learning of our youngest participants. Each day, there are hands-on activities and materials that break down abstract ideas into tangible learning opportunities. Experienced staff facilitate interactive play and work with each child’s specific needs. Our teacher-to-child ratio is an important aspect of developing meaningful relationships with each child. Within the children’s space, there are napping facilities to accommodate each child’s routine.

Kids Program

The kids program encourages friendship, learning and sharing experiences. Each lesson is designed to inspire a new way of thinking about the world around us and how we experience emotions. Topics are facilitated using conversations, questions, books, videos, and activities. There are community-focused times built into each day and group games led by our trained staff to encourage friendship among the kids. The goal is for each child to learn more about loving others and seeing themselves as God created them.

Teen Program

The teen program is designed for students to foster listening, acceptance, flexibility and community. Teens will participate in seminar sessions using similar language to the adult seminar topics each day. They will spend time discussing the material with our staff and will engage in learning activities. Teens are invited to share their stories as they learn and grow together in community. The goal is for teens to know themselves, God and others better as they apply what they’re learning to their hearts and lives.
